We wanted to get our vaccinations for a few diseases we thought we might encounter in the village and on our tour so we went to the highly recommended Pasteur clinic, a French-owned international clinic and institute. After a lengthy conversation with a seemingly competent doctor, we were sent to the reception to fill out some paperwork. To get to the front desk we had to step over a mini construction zone with rebar and an angle grinder we dubbed an “ankle grinder.”) Once at the desk we encountered a no-nonsense older Khmer woman who asked us questions in broken French while ticking boxes for us on the mystery paperwork. Back in the exam room, the doctor opened the fridge revealing an assortment of vaccines and his iced coffee on the top shelf.
After a quick rabies injection we were onto the blood drawing area where a lovely woman efficiently drew our blood to test for hepatitis B antibodies. Relived to be done and feeling pretty sure we were in good hands, we headed headed out the exam room door and barely dodged a woman in a hurry with a tray of little bone-shaped dog treats.
